The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation has officially launched its first Commonwealth Digital Roadshow on the African continent in Maseru, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s digital development agenda.

The event, which commenced on April 20, 2026, is being held alongside the 64th Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, bringing together member states from Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Pacific, and Europe for high-level discussions on the future of digital transformation.

In his keynote address, the Prime Minister of Lesotho highlighted the role of digital transformation as a key driver of national development, innovation, and economic opportunity.

Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Nthati Moorosi welcomed participants and emphasized Lesotho’s commitment to inclusive digital growth. She noted that the country’s National Digital Strategy is designed to ensure broad participation and access, positioning Lesotho as a focal point for ICT dialogue within the Commonwealth during the event.

Bernadette Lewis, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, called for the responsible use of information and communication technologies to strengthen shared values, preserve cultural identity, and maintain human connection in an increasingly digital world.

Also addressing the gathering, Martine Sobey commended the CTO on its 125th anniversary and praised the Government of Lesotho for hosting the inaugural African edition of the Digital Roadshow. She described the initiative as an important platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, highlighting the organisation’s people-centred approach to technology.

The combined Roadshow and Council Meeting are expected to foster innovation, strengthen partnerships, and advance a more inclusive and cooperative digital future across Commonwealth member states.
