Ethiopia
and the African Development Bank have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening
development cooperation following high-level talks held on the sidelines of the
2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary
Fund in Washington, D.C.
Ethiopia’s
Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, met with AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah to
advance a shared agenda focused on scaling up transformative development
initiatives.

The
discussions highlighted the strength of the long-standing partnership between
Ethiopia and the African Development Bank, particularly in supporting the
country’s ongoing economic reform programme and broader development objectives.
Minister Ahmed Shide noted continued progress in implementing reforms despite
global economic challenges, reaffirming the government’s commitment to
maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting private sector-led growth, and
driving structural transformation.
The
AfDB President commended Ethiopia’s reform efforts and resilience, reiterating
the Bank’s support for the country’s development priorities. Both parties
agreed to deepen collaboration in key sectors, including energy,
infrastructure, agriculture, and climate resilience, which are considered
critical to sustaining inclusive growth and job creation.

The
meeting also explored opportunities to expand the Bank’s financing and
technical assistance, with a focus on catalytic investments aimed at unlocking
private capital, strengthening regional connectivity, and accelerating green
and digital transitions.
The
renewed engagement underscores a shared commitment to advancing scalable and
impactful solutions to support Ethiopia’s long-term economic transformation and
sustainable development agenda.
