Ethiopia has intensified efforts to combat digital financial fraud following a national stakeholder consultation workshop convened by the Information Network Security Administration in collaboration with key industry and government actors.

The forum brought together financial institutions, security agencies, and policymakers to address emerging cybersecurity challenges as the country accelerates its transition toward a digital economy.

Participants underscored that cybersecurity is a critical foundation for building trust in digital financial services, particularly as increased accessibility has been accompanied by a rise in fraud-related risks. Discussions focused on the need to strengthen technological resilience, enhance legal and regulatory frameworks, and expand public awareness initiatives.

The workshop also presented findings from a national assessment on digital financial fraud, offering strategic insights and recommendations aimed at improving prevention mechanisms and response capabilities. These efforts are aligned with Ethiopia’s broader Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy.

Stakeholders emphasized that stronger coordination across institutions will be essential to safeguarding the financial system and ensuring a secure, reliable digital ecosystem for users.

Officials noted that the outcomes of the consultation will contribute to shaping policy responses and reinforcing national capacity to address evolving cyber threats in the financial sector.
