Togo
has launched a national Data Science Certification Programme aimed at
strengthening digital skills and building local capacity in data-related
fields.
The
initiative, implemented by Togo Data Lab in partnership with Simplon, is
supported by the Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital
Transformation and the German development agency GIZ.

The
programme targets the training of 260 participants, including 60 professionals
from the public administration, as part of broader efforts to enhance digital
competencies and improve public sector performance.
Activities
commenced in mid-April with the onboarding of the first cohort of students and
young professionals, followed by the start of training for public sector
participants. The intensive six-week programme is scheduled to run through May
22.
Participants
are undergoing practical training in key areas such as Python programming, data
processing and analysis, and machine learning techniques, aimed at equipping
them with skills applicable in both public and private sector environments.

Upon
completion, participants will receive certification validating their technical
competencies and readiness to apply data-driven approaches in professional
contexts.
Officials
say the initiative forms part of a wider strategy to strengthen the country’s
digital ecosystem, improve the effectiveness of public administration, and
support innovation-driven economic growth.
