The
Government of Senegal and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have
signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at accelerating the country’s
digital transformation agenda, with a focus on digital governance, inclusion,
artificial intelligence, and innovation.
The
agreement was concluded between the Ministry of Communication,
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs and the UNDP office in Senegal.

As
part of the initiative, a University Innovation Pod (UNIPOD) will be
established and officially inaugurated on 27 April at Amadou Mahtar Mbow
University. The facility is expected to serve as an innovation hub to support
young entrepreneurs and project developers across the country.
The
project, valued at approximately $1 million, is designed to strengthen
innovation ecosystems within higher education institutions while promoting
youth participation in the digital economy.

Officials
said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing inclusive
digital development and strengthening Senegal’s capacity in emerging
technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The
initiative is also expected to support broader national efforts to modernize
public services and foster innovation-driven economic growth.
