Ethiopia’s
artificial intelligence initiatives have been described as a continental
benchmark by Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, following a
high-level visit to the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.
The
Liberian delegation was received by the Director General of the Ethiopian
Artificial Intelligence Institute, Worku Gachena (PhD), who provided an
overview of the institution’s mandate and ongoing work in research,
development, and applied AI solutions aimed at addressing societal challenges.

During
the briefing, Dr. Gachena highlighted the institute’s focus on practical
innovation and its commitment to strengthening continental cooperation in
emerging technologies. He further noted the institute’s readiness to share
knowledge and experience with other African countries to support broader
digital transformation efforts across the continent.
Sara
Beysolow Nyanti commended Ethiopia’s progress in artificial intelligence,
describing it as a significant reference point for African nations seeking to
advance their own digital capabilities. She stated that Ethiopia’s achievements
in the sector offer valuable lessons, particularly for Liberia, as it seeks to
strengthen its technological foundations.

“We
stand for a better Liberia,” she said, adding that Ethiopia’s advancements in
AI represent a model pathway that can inform national development strategies.
The
Liberian Foreign Minister further characterised Ethiopia’s AI initiatives as a
“pathfinder” for Africa, emphasising the importance of prioritising education
and skills development to ensure that technology contributes effectively to
long-term continental growth.
