The
Africa Research and Impact Network (ARIN), in collaboration with the Government
of Kenya and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), has hosted a
high-level side event at the Africa Urban Forum II focused on advancing climate
resilience in African cities.

The
session, titled “Bridging Evidence Gaps Towards Building Climate Resilience
with the Urban Poor in Africa,” brought together policymakers, researchers, and
development stakeholders to address the need for stronger data systems and
inclusive urban planning approaches.
Discussions
highlighted the importance of integrating locally generated data and
community-led knowledge into policy formulation and investment decisions,
particularly as African cities face increasing climate risks alongside rapid
urban population growth.

Participants
emphasized that evidence-based and collaborative approaches are essential to
building resilient and equitable urban systems, especially for vulnerable
populations in informal settlements.
The
dialogue aligns with broader continental priorities under Agenda 2063,
reinforcing the role of data-driven strategies in shaping sustainable urban
development across Africa.
