The Ivorian government will from Monday, April 13, 2026 deploy more than 1,200 newly trained mathematics and physical sciences teachers across the country in a bid to address persistent shortages in secondary education.

The Minister of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education, N’Guessan Koffi, announced the development at the Technical and Vocational High School of Ebimpé, where he delivered final instructions to candidates provisionally admitted under an exceptional recruitment programme.

According to the ministry, a total of 1,021 middle school teachers were recruited out of 1,082 admitted candidates, with 61 absentees recorded, while 191 high school teachers were selected from 214 admitted candidates, with 23 absentees. The recruits have undergone two weeks of intensive pedagogical training ahead of their nationwide deployment.

The initiative forms part of government efforts to bridge the deficit of science teachers in both junior and senior secondary schools, a challenge that has affected the quality of science education in recent years.

Minister Koffi expressed appreciation to President Alassane Ouattara and other senior government officials for supporting the programme, noting that discussions are ongoing to ensure the full integration of the recruited teachers into the public service after a two-year evaluation period.

The Ministry also outlined support measures for the newly deployed teachers, including an installation allowance of 75,000 CFA francs, monthly remuneration of 150,000 CFA francs for middle school teachers and 175,000 CFA francs for high school teachers, as well as accommodation support facilitated by ministry teams.

In addition, 500 candidates trained in physics and chemistry at the Centre for Animation and Pedagogical Training (CAFOP) in Yamoussoukro are expected to be deployed simultaneously to reinforce teaching capacity in science disciplines nationwide.

Officials say the move is a significant step toward strengthening the country’s education system and improving access to quality science instruction for students across Côte d’Ivoire.
