Guinea
is advancing efforts to strengthen scientific and technological capacity
through a new academic collaboration with Rwanda under the Simandou Academy
initiative.
The
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Diaka Sidibé, held
discussions at the University of Rwanda during a working visit to Kigali on
April 10, 2026. She was accompanied by Guinea’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Soumaïla
Savané.

The
visit focused on expanding access for Guinean students, researchers, and
academic staff to advanced training programmes, in line with the Simandou
Academy’s objective of building national expertise in key scientific fields.
During
the engagement, Vice-Chancellor of the university’s College of Science and
Technology, Kayihura Muganga Didas, expressed support for Guinea’s education
reforms and confirmed the institution’s readiness to host Guinean students in
Master’s and doctoral programmes.
Both
parties also indicated plans to formalize the collaboration through a framework
agreement in the near future, paving the way for structured academic exchanges
and joint capacity-building initiatives.

The
partnership is expected to see the first cohort of Guinean students and
teacher-researchers enroll in Kigali in the next academic intake, with training
focused on priority areas including science, technology, engineering, mining,
data, and fundamental sciences.
The
initiative aligns with Guinea’s broader strategy to develop human capital and
position science and innovation as key drivers of national development.
