The
Chief Executive Officer of Yas Tanzania, Pierre Canton-Bacara, has reaffirmed
the company’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation in Tanzania
following the official handover of telecommunications infrastructure to the
government.
Speaking
during the ceremony marking the transfer of 758 Universal Communications
Service Access Fund (UCSAF)-funded sites and optical fibre cable
infrastructure, Canton-Bacara emphasized that the milestone represents more
than infrastructure delivery, highlighting years of collaboration, sustained
investment, and a shared vision for national connectivity.

He
noted that Yas Tanzania is especially proud of its contribution to the
initiative, having delivered 33 percent of the total sites constructed and
upgraded all its 2G sites to 4G as part of efforts to expand high-speed
connectivity nationwide.
The
infrastructure, spanning more than 1,193 kilometres, is expected to strengthen
the National ICT Broadband Backbone and extend digital services to underserved
areas, supporting business growth, access to healthcare and education, and
broader innovation opportunities.

Canton-Bacara
further stated that the company has invested over one trillion Tanzanian
shillings in building one of the country’s widest and fastest 4G and 5G
networks, now covering more than 95 percent of the population.
He
stressed that inclusive connectivity remains central to Tanzania’s ambition of
becoming a regional digital hub, adding that continued collaboration between
the public and private sectors will be critical to sustaining progress and
ensuring that digital opportunities reach all citizens.
