Gabon advances digital inclusion with equipment distribution to provinces

The
Government of Gabon has taken a significant step toward expanding digital
access across the country with the official handover of digital equipment to
provincial authorities as part of a national rollout programme.
The
initiative, held on April 1, 2026, at the National Agency for Digital
Infrastructures and Frequencies (ANINF), forms part of a broader presidential
agenda aimed at strengthening digital inclusion and infrastructure development
nationwide. The programme is being implemented under the leadership of
President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and chaired by the Minister of Digital
Economy, Digitalization and Innovation, Mark Alexandre Doumba.
The
ceremony marked the formal transfer of digital equipment to provincial
governors, who have been tasked with overseeing its deployment across their
respective regions to ensure that local communities benefit directly from
enhanced digital access.
Authorities
say the programme is designed to bridge connectivity gaps, extend digital
services, and promote equitable access to technology across all territories. By
decentralising deployment responsibilities, the government aims to accelerate
implementation and ensure that digital tools reach underserved populations.
ANINF,
the agency responsible for digital infrastructure and frequency management,
reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the nationwide expansion of
connectivity. The agency indicated that the initiative aligns with ongoing
efforts to progressively connect all provinces and integrate digital solutions
into everyday public service delivery.
The
rollout reflects Gabon’s broader ambition to position digital technology as a
fundamental enabler of socio-economic development, with officials emphasising
that access to digital services is increasingly being treated as a basic right
rather than a privilege.
