A
master’s student in electrical engineering, Josué Smith Mahulé Avikpo, has
developed an electric tricycle aimed at tackling daily transport challenges in
Lomé. The vehicle, designed as part of his research, can carry up to five
passengers and 500 kilograms, powered by a 1,200W motor and a 130Ah battery,
reaching speeds of 40 km/h with a range of 162 km.

The
project, supported by UniPod Togo: Pôle Universitaire d’Innovation et de
Technologie through mentorship and technical guidance, is now being piloted at
the University of Lomé.

The
initiative seeks to provide an affordable, reliable, and environmentally
friendly alternative to conventional fuel-powered tricycles, showcasing the
potential of youth-led innovation to deliver scalable solutions for urban
mobility.
