SONATEL
has joined the Government of Senegal in launching key projects under the
country’s New Deal for Technology, aimed at advancing digital transformation
and expanding access to public services.
The
launch event took place at the Centre International de Conférences Abdou Diouf
in Diamniadio and was chaired by Ousmane Sonko, with the participation of
Alioune Sall and senior officials from both government and industry.
Representing
SONATEL, Chief Executive Officer Brelotte Ba and members of the management team
reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s digital agenda
through infrastructure development and service delivery.

During
the event, authorities announced significant progress in strengthening digital
infrastructure, including a 30-fold increase in government bandwidth and the
interconnection of 51 government buildings. Several digital platforms,
including e-Jokko, e-Senegal, and e-Consulate, have also been deployed to
enhance access to public services.
Stakeholders
emphasized that while infrastructure development remains critical, the
effective use of digital technologies is equally important. Despite achieving
97 percent network coverage, digital adoption rates remain around 40 percent,
highlighting a gap driven by user engagement and digital literacy rather than
connectivity.

SONATEL
indicated that its role in the transformation extends beyond infrastructure,
focusing on connectivity, capacity building, and digital inclusion through
initiatives such as fibre deployment, 5G, satellite services, and the Orange
Digital Center network.
