Nigeria
and Finland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening
cooperation across key areas of the digital economy, following a high-level
engagement in Abuja.
Nigeria’s
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani,
hosted Finland’s Under Secretary of State for International Trade, Jarno
Syrjala, alongside Finland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Sanna Selin, for
discussions that culminated in the agreement.

The
MoU is expected to accelerate collaboration in areas including digital
government, connectivity, emerging technologies, digital public infrastructure,
cybersecurity, and innovation ecosystems. It also reinforces ongoing
partnerships between Nigeria and Finnish development institutions and private
sector companies.
Key
initiatives under the collaboration include continued engagement in the
development of the Nigeria Data Exchange platform, support for Nigeria’s 3
Million Technical Talent programme, and ongoing discussions around export
credit financing from Finnvera for Project BRIDGE.

Officials
say the agreement builds on outcomes from Nigeria’s recent investment and
partnership engagements in Europe, positioning both countries to expand
cooperation in leveraging digital technologies for economic growth.
The
partnership is expected to support inclusive development by strengthening
innovation capacity, improving digital infrastructure, and enabling both
countries to harness opportunities within the evolving global digital economy.
