Ethiopia and Djibouti has supported a three-day training programme in Addis
Ababa aimed at enhancing knowledge management and promoting the responsible use
of artificial intelligence within Ethiopia’s Technical and Vocational Education
and Training (TVET) sector.
The
training, held under the Ethio-German Sustainable Training and Education
Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Skills Ethiopia, the
German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, and the FDRE
TVT Institute, brought together 42 experts to address gaps in knowledge
utilization and emerging challenges linked to AI adoption.

Participants
examined how knowledge generated within Ethiopia’s TVET system can be better
structured and applied to improve institutional performance, with emphasis on
aligning technology, processes, and human capacity. The training highlighted
the importance of fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
to maximize the value of institutional knowledge.
Sessions
on artificial intelligence focused on responsible application, underscoring the
role of data quality, the necessity of human validation, and the importance of
ethical considerations in AI deployment. Practical use cases explored included
curriculum development, career guidance, and training simulations.

The
programme also facilitated knowledge exchange through presentations on German
TVET research practices, enabling participants to draw lessons for local
adaptation.
Officials
said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ethiopia’s TVET
system by integrating structured knowledge management approaches with
responsible digital innovation. The programme is implemented on behalf of the
German government and co-financed by the European Union.
