A
delegation of Indian technology firms has held talks with the Ethiopian
Artificial Intelligence Institute to explore opportunities for collaboration in
artificial intelligence, signaling deepening ties between the two countries in
the digital sector.
The
delegation, led by Anil Kumar, engaged with officials from the institute on
areas of mutual interest, including knowledge exchange, infrastructure
development, and the application of AI to address socio-economic challenges.
During
the meeting, Director General Worku Gachena outlined the institute’s rapid
growth and its expanding role in supporting Ethiopia’s development agenda. He
emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in improving
service delivery and tackling key national challenges.
Dr.
Gachena also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Ethiopia’s digital
infrastructure, including investments in data centres and the development of
innovative systems designed to enhance efficiency across sectors.
He
noted that the recent visit by Narendra Modi has elevated relations between
Ethiopia and India to the level of a strategic partnership, providing a strong
foundation for deeper cooperation in emerging technologies.
Ambassador
Kumar reaffirmed that both countries have identified artificial intelligence as
a priority area and are working to implement agreements reached at the
leadership level.
The
discussions also provided an opportunity for the Indian delegation to share
insights on the opportunities and challenges associated with AI development,
while Ethiopian experts who recently participated in an AI Impact Summit in
India presented key takeaways from their engagements.
The
meeting reflects growing international collaboration in artificial intelligence
as countries seek to leverage emerging technologies to drive innovation and
economic growth.
