The United States has
reaffirmed its commitment to global telecommunications leadership during the
Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) Assembly held in San José,
Costa Rica.
During the meeting, the U.S.
Department of State’s Bureau of International Organization Affairs engaged with
partners from across the Americas and hosted a reception to officially launch
three campaigns at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
These include the
re-election bid of Doreen Bogdan-Martin as ITU Secretary-General, Jennifer
Warren’s candidacy for the ITU Radio Regulations Board, and the United States’
re-election to the ITU Council.
Officials noted that
continued U.S. leadership at the ITU is aimed at shaping global
telecommunications policies that support innovation, economic growth, and
secure communication networks.
The engagement comes at a
time when technological advancements are rapidly transforming the global
economy, with the United States emphasizing the importance of ensuring that
international frameworks remain focused on practical and inclusive solutions.
