The Africa Centres for
Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has officially handed over a Public
Health Emergency Operations Centre to Madagascar, in a move aimed at
strengthening the country’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

The support provided by
Africa CDC includes infrastructure and equipment valued at approximately
US$300,000, as well as specialized training for 40 frontline health workers in
Emergency Operations Centre management and the Incident Management System.
The initiative comes as
Madagascar continues to respond to public health and environmental challenges,
including an mpox outbreak and the impact of Cyclones Fytia and Gezani.
Officials say the new facility will enhance coordination, improve response times,
and support more effective management of health emergencies.

The handover underscores
ongoing efforts to build resilient health systems across Africa and improve
countries’ ability to respond to complex and evolving threats.
