Google
CEO, Sundar Pichai has announced the commencement of construction on a new
full-stack artificial intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam, India, marking a
significant expansion of the company’s long-term infrastructure investment in
the country.
The
project forms part of a broader $15 billion commitment to India’s digital
infrastructure ecosystem and is expected to include gigawatt-scale computing
capacity, a new international subsea cable landing gateway, and integrated
clean energy infrastructure to support advanced AI operations.
According
to Pichai, the development reflects both technological ambition and long-term
economic impact, with expectations that the facility will generate employment
opportunities and strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem.
He
noted that Visakhapatnam, which he recalled as a modest coastal city during his
student years, is now evolving into a strategic hub for advanced digital
infrastructure and artificial intelligence development.
The
AI hub is positioned to support next-generation computing needs while also
enhancing global connectivity and expanding access to high-performance
infrastructure for businesses and developers.
Once
completed, the project is expected to play a key role in advancing India’s
position within the global AI and digital economy landscape.
