Angola’s National Space
Program Management Office (GGPEN) has presented the Conecta Angola TV White
Space (TVWS) connectivity solution as an alternative for extending digital
access to the country’s mining sector, particularly in remote areas with limited
telecommunications infrastructure.
The solution was presented
during a workshop on the Technological Infrastructure of the Angolan Mining
Cadastre, organised by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas
(MIREMPET).
Speaking during Panel IV,
which focused on solutions to improve connectivity, GGPEN highlighted the
Conecta Angola Comercial project combined with TV White Space technology as a
potential solution for providing users in remote mining areas with access to
the Angola Mining Cadastre Platform (CMA).
The technology uses unused
portions of digital television spectrum to deliver internet connectivity over
long distances. This makes TVWS particularly suitable for communities,
institutions and businesses located in areas where conventional telecommunications
infrastructure is unavailable or difficult to deploy.
GGPEN said the technology
can provide connectivity at relatively lower costs while enabling reliable
access in hard-to-reach locations.
The Conecta Angola
initiative is being promoted by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information
Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS) through GGPEN and its
partners, with the broader objective of extending internet access to
underserved communities, institutions and strategic projects.
For the mining sector,
improved connectivity could facilitate access to digital cadastral services and
support more efficient interaction between mining operators, government
agencies and other stakeholders.
