Ethio
Telecom has inaugurated its fourth public electric vehicle charging station in
Adama, marking a significant expansion of the company’s sustainable transport
infrastructure. The new Derartu Square facility, located outside Addis Ababa,
features 12 ultra-fast chargers capable of servicing multiple vehicles
simultaneously, boosting the capacity of the city’s existing electric vehicle
network.

The
station is designed to be energy-efficient and AI-powered, providing high-speed
charging while supporting Ethiopia’s transition to a green economy. Since
February 2017, Ethio Telecom’s charging infrastructure has served more than
284,000 electric vehicles, delivering over 7.1 million kilowatt-hours of
electricity and preventing over 10 million kilograms of carbon dioxide
emissions, equivalent to planting nearly 50,000 trees.

In
addition to public stations, Ethio Telecom is developing charging
infrastructure for key national institutions and a national digital platform
that integrates stations from other stakeholders, ensuring comprehensive
service access across the country.
The
company emphasized its ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable transport,
green technologies, and the growth of Ethiopia’s digital economy.
