Senegal has taken part in the 3rd Forum on Global Action for Shared Development held in Beijing, China, bringing together senior government officials and ministers from across the Global South to discuss strategies for inclusive and sustainable development.

The forum, organised by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), was held under the theme “Priority to Action: Building a Global Community of Shared Development.” It coincides with the fifth anniversary of China’s Global Development Initiative and focused on strengthening international cooperation in response to global economic and technological challenges.

The opening ceremony brought together high-level representatives, including the President of Mozambique and the Deputy Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, alongside ministers and senior officials from multiple countries.

Alioune SALL represented Senegal at the forum, where he participated in discussions on digital transformation and development in the Global South. He also spoke during a digital sub-forum on “Digital technology for the high-quality development of the Global South,” as well as at a high-level meeting with Chinese leadership.

Key outcomes of the forum included the announcement of a 50-point development action plan aimed at supporting recovery and growth in developing economies. The plan features the launch of a “Digital South” initiative with a dedicated technology development centre, the establishment of an International Data Governance Centre in Beijing, and the mobilisation of a $3 billion fund through the South-South Global Development Fund.

Discussions at the forum underscored the role of digital technology as a driver of sovereignty, growth and social equity. Delegates emphasised that high-quality development requires coordinated international partnerships and shared strategic vision among developing countries.

Senegal reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging digital transformation as a tool for national development, while highlighting the importance of cooperation with international partners in advancing inclusive and sustainable growth.
