The
African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, Lerato D. Mataboge,
has held a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of the Union of the Comoros to
Ethiopia and the African Union, Youssouf Mondoha Assoumani, to advance
cooperation on key continental priorities.

The
discussions focused on the strategic role of infrastructure and energy in
driving Africa’s development agenda, with emphasis on the integration of
technology, execution of continental strategies, and acceleration of economic
transformation. Both parties underscored the importance of coordinated efforts
in achieving the objectives outlined under Agenda 2063.
The
meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration in the application of
artificial intelligence across critical sectors, including healthcare,
commerce, and trade, highlighting the growing role of emerging technologies in
supporting sustainable development.

In
addition to continental frameworks, the dialogue addressed national initiatives
contributing to regional energy goals. The Ambassador highlighted the Mount
Karthala Geothermal Project in Comoros as a key development with potential to
support energy diversification and sustainability efforts.
The
engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the African Union’s Department of
Infrastructure and Energy to strengthen alignment with Member States and foster
a coordinated approach to implementing priority programmes across the
continent.
