The
Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited
has reinforced the importance of satellite technology in driving Nigeria’s
digital transformation during the opening of Satellite Week 2026.
Delivering the Chairman’s Address on Day One of the
event, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, emphasized that infrastructure
investment alone is insufficient without effective utilization and value
creation. He noted that the true impact of digital infrastructure lies in how
it is applied to drive innovation and societal development.

The Minister highlighted the broad
applications of satellite technology across key sectors, including agriculture,
education, and logistics, where it can improve productivity, enhance learning
outcomes, and increase operational efficiency. He stressed the need for Nigeria
to move beyond theoretical discussions and focus on practical implementation
that delivers measurable impact.
He further called for sustained
investment in local infrastructure, the integration of satellite systems with
terrestrial and mobile networks, and the development of technical talent
capable of leveraging these technologies.

He
also underscored the importance of collaboration across the continent to unlock
the full potential of satellite-enabled services.
The event
brought together industry stakeholders to explore the convergence of space
technologies, governance, and economic opportunities, with discussions focused
on building a resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem for Nigeria and the
broader African region.
