The
Technology Innovation Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority to advance skills
development and support innovation-driven economic growth.

The
agreement aims to strengthen collaboration between the country’s innovation and
skills ecosystems by linking research, training, employment, and
commercialization efforts. It is expected to equip South Africans with
competencies required for emerging technology sectors while addressing
unemployment through targeted training programmes.
Officials
indicated that the partnership will also enhance industry collaboration and
create pathways for sustainable innovation by aligning the SmartSkills
Ecosystem led by CHIETA with the innovation ecosystem driven by TIA.

The
initiative is aligned with South Africa’s National Development Plan and the
Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan, providing a framework to expand
opportunities for unemployed youth at national, provincial, and local levels.
The
MoU was signed by Patrick Krappie and Yershen Pillay, and witnessed by Loyiso
Tyira and Tsakani Nkambule.
