Senegal
is accelerating efforts to integrate digital technology into its cultural and
tourism sectors following a high-level meeting between the Minister of
Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Alioune Sall, and the
Minister of Handicrafts and Tourism, Amadou Ba.
The
engagement, held as part of the Ministry’s ongoing roadshow initiative,
underscored the growing role of digital solutions as a catalyst for enhancing
cultural heritage, improving tourism experiences, and boosting national
competitiveness.
Discussions
highlighted the implementation of key initiatives under Senegal’s New Deal for
Technology, supported by coordinated digital governance frameworks, including
GouvNum, aimed at ensuring efficiency and impact across public sector projects.

Among
the flagship projects presented was the e-Teranga platform, which is
streamlining visa issuance processes to improve visitor access, as well as the
e-Senegal one-stop platform designed to fully digitize administrative
procedures in the culture and tourism sectors. Authorities are also advancing
the digitization of cultural heritage and supporting creative industries
through the Senegal Digital Factory.
Officials
further noted the emerging role of artificial intelligence in enhancing tourism
attractiveness and service delivery, while emphasizing the need to build a
secure, interoperable digital ecosystem that protects data and supports sector
stakeholders.
The
initiative reflects Senegal’s broader ambition to leverage digital
transformation as a driver of cultural influence, economic growth, and its
positioning as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
