Kenya’s ICT Authority has
joined government officials and other stakeholders in a tree-growing campaign
at Kirasha Primary School in Kiambu County as the country marked Mazingira Day.
The campaign was attended by
the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the
Digital Economy, William Kabogo, accompanied by the Principal Secretary for the
State Department for Correctional Services, Salome Muhia-Beacco, and ICT
Authority Chief Executive Officer Jessy Maruti.
Held under the theme, “Our
Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and
Environmental Stewardship,” the initiative highlighted the importance of
collective action in restoring degraded landscapes, increasing tree cover and
promoting environmental sustainability.
The ICT Authority said that,
as an enabler of Kenya’s digital transformation, it recognised the importance
of environmental stewardship in building a sustainable future.
The Authority encouraged
Kenyans to plant and nurture trees, protect natural resources and embrace
sustainable practices towards a greener, healthier and more sustainable Kenya.
The event brought together
representatives from the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO)
team in Lari Sub-County, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), the Kenya Wildlife
Service (KWS), Correctional Services, the Communications Authority of Kenya and
the County Commander, among other stakeholders.
Their participation
demonstrated a shared commitment to environmental conservation and collective
efforts to promote tree growing and environmental stewardship.
