Côte d’Ivoire’s
Telecommunications and ICT Regulatory Authority (ARTCI) has held discussions
with Meta on content monetisation, digital services regulation and artificial
intelligence, as the regulator works to strengthen the framework governing the
country’s digital ecosystem.
The meeting was led by Roger
Felix Adom, President of ARTCI’s Regulatory Council, who received a Meta
delegation accompanied by Isaac Gnamba-Yao, a member of the Regulatory Council,
and Fabienne Kone, Director of the Council President’s Cabinet.
Meta’s delegation comprised
Balisa Ide Sido, Director of Public Relations for Sub-Saharan Africa; Thys
Kazad, Head of Public Policy for Connectivity and Innovation in Francophone
Africa; and Judith Mongala, Head of Governments and Partners for Sub-Saharan
Africa.
The discussions covered the
growing presence of Meta’s platforms in Côte d’Ivoire, content monetisation on
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, the regulation of digital services
and AI, and the contribution of technology companies to the Ivorian economy.
The meeting also provided an
opportunity to present progress made on content monetisation and discuss next
steps, including the finalisation of the regulatory framework, the development
of training initiatives and stronger collaboration between ARTCI and Meta on
digital transformation.
