Senegal’s Ministry of
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs has pledged institutional support to the
Senegalese Association of Computer Science Researchers as part of efforts to
strengthen research, innovation and cybersecurity under the country’s New Deal
Technologique strategy.
The ministry announced the commitment after a meeting between Telecommunications and Digital Affairs Minister
Samba Diouf and a delegation from the association led by its president, Prof.
Maissa Mbaye.
The ministry said the
support would accompany upcoming cybersecurity-focused scientific gatherings, reinforcing efforts to develop local expertise and promote
technological excellence.
The initiative aligns with
the New Deal Technologique, Senegal’s national framework for guaranteeing
digital sovereignty and accelerating the development of the local digital
economy.
The strategy seeks to
strengthen collaboration between universities, professionals and research
centres to build a sub-regional technology hub and promote the emergence of
national technology champions.
The ministry said developing
human capital, continuously improving skills and promoting technological
excellence would be essential to establishing Senegal’s leadership in the
digital sector.
Through its engagement with
the researchers’ association, the ministry is reaffirming its commitment to
supporting the country’s research and innovation ecosystem and strengthening
the role of local expertise in its digital transformation.
