Telecommunications company TNM has donated MK20 million towards the 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elective conference of the Association for Magistrates in Malawi (AMA) and the Magistrates and Judges Association of Malawi (MAJAM).

The AGM and elective conference, scheduled to take place later this month, will bring together magistrates and judges to deliberate on professional matters and elect new office bearers for the two associations.

The sponsorship forms part of TNM’s continued support for Malawi’s legal fraternity and reflects the company’s commitment to initiatives that promote the rule of law and strengthen public institutions.

AMA and MAJAM are professional associations representing magistrates and judges in Malawi, with mandates focused on professional development, welfare and maintaining the integrity of the judicial profession.

AMA President, His Worship Kondani Chinangwa, expressed appreciation to TNM for the contribution, saying the support would assist in the successful organisation of the AGM and elective conference.

TNM Legal and Regulatory Director, Chisomo Governor, said the company recognises the important role of the judiciary and other justice-sector institutions in creating a fair and stable environment for citizens, businesses and the wider economy.

Governor said TNM remains committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to the development of Malawi’s legal profession and promote respect for the rule of law.

He added that strong and independent institutions are essential to Malawi’s social and economic development, reinforcing TNM’s position on the importance of supporting the country’s justice system.
