The German Government has
reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts to build a more
reliable, sustainable and inclusive power sector following a high-level
engagement with Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe.
A delegation from GIZ
Nigeria and ECOWAS, together with representatives of the German Embassy, paid a
courtesy visit to the Minister as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen
cooperation between the two countries on energy-sector development.
The delegation was led by
Johannes Lehne, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy, and GIZ Nigeria
and ECOWAS Country Director Dr. Markus Wagner. Other members included Jochen
Rudolph, Cluster Coordinator for the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP);
Joshua Yari Garba, NESP Implementation Manager; and Dr. Okuji Obinna Oreh,
Senior Climate Policy Advisor.
The meeting provided an
opportunity for both sides to discuss Nigeria’s power-sector priorities and
explore areas for strengthening the longstanding German-Nigerian partnership in
sustainable energy development.
Through its programmes in
Nigeria, the German Government is supporting efforts to strengthen
institutions, advance power-sector reforms and expand access to sustainable
energy solutions.
The cooperation also forms
part of broader efforts to support Nigeria’s energy transition and improve the
capacity of institutions and stakeholders to respond to the country’s evolving
energy needs.
GIZ said sustained
partnerships, strong institutions and coordinated action would remain critical
as Nigeria works to address challenges in its power sector while creating
opportunities for citizens and businesses.
