The Konza Technopolis Development Authority has begun discussions with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Kenya’s cloud infrastructure, digital skills and technology innovation ecosystem.

Konza Technopolis CEO John Paul Okwiri hosted an AWS delegation led by Robin Njiru, Regional Lead for Public Sector, for an engagement that marks the beginning of discussions expected to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The proposed partnership will explore the establishment of an AWS Outpost and a Startup and Technical Centre of Excellence at Konza Technopolis.

The facilities are expected to support the adoption of hybrid cloud technologies in Kenya while addressing data residency and low-latency requirements for public sector institutions and enterprises.

The collaboration will also focus on developing Kenya’s technical workforce through training and certification programmes covering cloud technologies, data management, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

For the country’s startup ecosystem, the proposed partnership is expected to create additional opportunities for startups and scale-ups to access AWS credits, technical support, mentorship and opportunities through the AWS Partner Network.

The initiative is also expected to provide technology businesses with pathways to strengthen their solutions, accelerate innovation and expand their operations.
