The maiden edition of the
MoMo Fintech Lab has been launched in Ghana to identify, develop and connect
emerging technology talent with opportunities in the country’s growing digital
financial services sector.
The initiative was launched
with the participation of the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology
and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, the Head of Fintech and Innovation at the
Bank of Ghana, Elhanan Owureku Asare and other stakeholders from Ghana’s
technology and financial services ecosystem.
According to Chief Executive
Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Limited, Shaibu Haruna, the programme is
designed to bridge the gap between technical talent and commercial success by
providing emerging innovators with practical support to develop market-ready
solutions.
As part of the programme,
curated boot camps will be organised in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale over the
coming months. Developers from across Ghana will receive hands-on mentorship,
technical reviews and support in refining their ideas and pitching them to potential
investors and industry stakeholders.
The programme will culminate
in a National Demo Day, where selected innovators will have the opportunity to
present their solutions to investors, financial institutions and other key
players capable of supporting the commercialisation and scaling of their ideas.
The organisers said the
initiative is intended to promote broader participation in Ghana’s digital
financial ecosystem by creating opportunities for developers and innovators
from different parts of the country.
The launch brought together
a broad network of partners from the financial services, technology,
cybersecurity and digital innovation sectors, including Hubtel, Korba,
AppNMobile, Zenith Bank, The Blu Penguin, Jumo, First National Bank, the Cyber
Security Authority, the Data Protection Commission and the Bank of Ghana.
