The Communications
Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) Legal and Policy Committee
(LPC) has concluded deliberations on key legal and regulatory issues affecting
the region’s communications sector.
The committee reached
alignment on matters covering emerging technologies and digital governance,
regional legal instruments, and institutional governance and legal advisory
services.
Discussions on regional
legal instruments focused on their domestication, implementation and
enforceability, areas considered important to ensuring greater consistency in
the application of communications regulations across Southern African
countries.
The committee also examined
institutional governance and the provision of legal advisory services as part
of efforts to strengthen regulatory institutions and support effective
decision-making.
The deliberations form part
of CRASA’s broader mandate to promote regulatory cooperation and harmonisation
among communications regulators in the Southern African region.
The association said the
engagements are important to building a coordinated and responsive regulatory
environment capable of addressing the challenges emerging from rapid
technological and digital developments.
The outcomes are expected to
contribute to stronger regional approaches to communications regulation while
supporting regulators in responding to emerging technologies and evolving
digital governance requirements.
