The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) has welcomed 30 young changemakers selected for
the 2026–2027 cohort of its Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme
(GCYLP).
The new cohort represents 24
countries across all six ITU regions and was selected from more than 6,700
applications, reflecting strong global interest in youth leadership and digital
development.
The fellows will receive
support, resources and guidance over the next year to help them develop and
implement digital development projects within their communities.
Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava,
Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, congratulated the
selected fellows and expressed confidence in their ability to translate
innovative ideas into practical solutions.
The programme is designed to
equip young leaders with opportunities to contribute to digital transformation
and address development challenges through technology and innovation.
The 2026–2027 cohort marks
the third intake of the Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme, which
seeks to strengthen youth participation in shaping the future of digital
development.
ITU also acknowledged
Huawei, a Sector Member of the Union, for its partnership and support for the
programme and its commitment to developing the next generation of digital
leaders.
Over the coming year, the 30
fellows are expected to advance projects focused on digital development in
their respective communities, with their progress monitored as they translate
their ideas into practical impact.
