Namibia’s Ministry of
Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has reaffirmed its commitment
to strengthening the country’s cybersecurity resilience following an engagement
with the Namibia Cybersecurity Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT) in Windhoek.
The engagement, held on
August 11, 2026, brought together MICT Executive Director Ms Linda Nakale, MICT
management and staff, and officials of the Communications Regulatory Authority
of Namibia (CRAN) and NAM-CSIRT.
During the visit, Ms Nakale
commended NAM-CSIRT for its efforts to strengthen Namibia’s capacity to
prevent, respond to and manage cybersecurity incidents. She reaffirmed MICT’s
commitment to supporting the team’s work as the country continues to confront
an evolving digital threat landscape.
The engagement provided an
opportunity for NAM-CSIRT to present an overview of its operations, progress
and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing national cybersecurity resilience.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among
government institutions and other stakeholders in improving the country’s
ability to respond effectively to cyber threats.
CRAN Chief Executive Officer
Ms Emilia Nghikembua welcomed the MICT delegation and highlighted the expanding
scope of NAM-CSIRT’s responsibilities. She noted the team’s role in responding
to cyber incidents while promoting cybersecurity awareness and resilience among
organisations and members of the public.
The visit concluded with a
tour of the NAM-CSIRT facility, giving the MICT delegation an opportunity to
gain further insight into the team’s operational environment and cybersecurity
response capabilities.
