The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has engaged the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on opportunities to enhance collaboration in satellite communications and space-enabled technologies to support Nigeria’s national defence and security objectives.

A NIGCOMSAT delegation recently visited the Nigerian Air Force as part of efforts to deepen existing institutional partnerships and identify new areas where satellite and communications capabilities can contribute to national security.

The delegation was received by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, during discussions focused on leveraging satellite communications and space technologies to strengthen the capabilities of Nigeria’s security institutions.

NIGCOMSAT said the engagement goes beyond a courtesy visit, describing it as part of a broader effort to establish strategic partnerships that combine national expertise, technology and innovation to address evolving security and communications requirements.

The satellite operator said Nigeria’s changing strategic needs require stronger approaches to connectivity, communications, intelligence and security, particularly as technology becomes increasingly important to national defence operations.

Satellite technology can support resilient communications by providing connectivity in areas where conventional terrestrial infrastructure may be limited or vulnerable, while also strengthening the ability of institutions to maintain communications during critical operations.

NIGCOMSAT said it remains committed to working with national institutions to translate Nigeria’s space and telecommunications capabilities into practical applications that support national development and security.

The engagement with the Nigerian Air Force forms part of broader efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and maximise the use of Nigeria’s satellite infrastructure and space capabilities in addressing national priorities.
