Ethiopia and Benin have
taken steps to deepen bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence
following an official visit by Benin's Minister of Digital Transformation and
Innovation, Mahuna Akplogan, to the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence
Institute.
The high-level visit focused
on strengthening collaboration in artificial intelligence, technology transfer
and capacity building as both countries seek to accelerate their digital
transformation agendas.
During the meeting, Director
General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, Dr. Werku Gachena,
briefed the Beninese delegation on the Institute's research and development
activities and its role in supporting the implementation of Ethiopia's Digital
Ethiopia Vision 2030. He also outlined the progress the Institute has made in
advancing artificial intelligence technologies and their application across
various sectors.
Minister Mahuna Akplogan
commended the Institute's achievements, describing its work in artificial
intelligence as an example for the African continent. He said Ethiopia and
Benin share a common vision for digital transformation and noted that closer
cooperation between the two countries would contribute to sustainable
development and strengthen Africa's technological capabilities.
The discussions also
provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange experiences on Ethiopia's
adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and explore areas of future
collaboration, including technology transfer, skills development and institutional
capacity building.
The engagement reflects
growing cooperation among African countries to develop indigenous artificial
intelligence capabilities, promote innovation and strengthen digital ecosystems
through knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships.
