Ghana’s President John
Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of
Parliament, as Minister of State for the Ministry of Environment, Science and
Technology, subject to approval by Parliament.
The nomination was announced
in a statement from the Presidency on Friday, August 7, 2026, in accordance
with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires presidential
nominations for Ministers of State to be submitted to Parliament through the
Speaker for prior approval.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’
appointment places her at the centre of government efforts to advance policies
in environmental protection, scientific research, technology development and
innovation.
The Ministry of Environment,
Science and Technology plays a key role in shaping Ghana’s approach to
sustainable development, climate action, scientific advancement and the use of
technology to support national growth.
The President also
reassigned other ministers to new portfolios as part of the changes announced.
Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence,
while Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been appointed to the Ministry of Works, Housing
and Water Resources.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings
is the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey and has previously served on
parliamentary committees, including those related to health and national
security. Her nomination will now proceed through Parliament’s approval process
before she officially assumes the new role.
