Ecobank Group Chief
Executive Officer Jeremy Awori is advocating for stronger collaboration,
improved project preparation, and increased mobilisation of African capital to
accelerate infrastructure development across the continent.
Speaking during the Africa50
Infra for Africa Forum 2026 in Tanzania, Awori highlighted the importance of
infrastructure finance, asset recycling, and domestic capital mobilisation in
driving Africa’s long-term economic growth.
Awori said Africa has
significant financial resources, institutions, and expertise needed to fund its
development ambitions, but stressed that stronger coordination, investor
confidence, and effective execution are required to convert opportunities into bankable
projects.
He identified three key
priorities for accelerating infrastructure delivery, including better packaging
of infrastructure projects to attract investment from pension funds, sovereign
wealth funds, and international financiers.
According to Awori, changing
perceptions about Africa’s investment potential will also be critical, with
investors requiring evidence of viable projects, strong returns, and successful
track records rather than commitments alone.
He further called for
stronger alignment between development finance institutions, multilateral
organisations, commercial banks, and partners such as Africa50 to transform
individual infrastructure transactions into broader investment opportunities.
The Ecobank CEO said moving
from discussions to actual project delivery will require sustained
collaboration among stakeholders and a renewed focus on creating scalable
infrastructure investment pipelines across African markets.
