The Southern African
Development Community (SADC) has concluded its third preparatory meeting for
the International Telecommunication Union’s World Radiocommunication Conference
2027 (WRC-27), with member states and regional stakeholders advancing common
positions on key global spectrum issues.
The five-day meeting, held
in Luanda, Angola, brought together representatives from SADC member states and
telecommunications stakeholders to coordinate regional priorities ahead of
WRC-27, scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China.
Discussions focused on key
areas including radio frequency spectrum management, satellite communications,
broadcasting services, and emerging wireless technologies. The engagement aimed
to ensure that SADC’s interests and priorities are reflected in the wider
African and global radiocommunication agenda.
The Communications
Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) Executive Secretary, Dr.
Stanley Shanapinda, participated in the regional discussions, contributing to
efforts to strengthen coordination and preparation ahead of the global
conference.
The meeting provided a
platform for member states to refine SADC Common Positions and Proposals on
WRC-27 Agenda Items while promoting collaboration on future spectrum solutions
that support innovation, connectivity, and regional integration.
As preparations continue
towards WRC-27, SADC stakeholders are expected to maintain coordinated efforts
to advance policies that support digital development and socio-economic growth
across the region.
