MTN Group President and CEO
Ralph Mupita has held discussions with International Monetary Fund (IMF) First
Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz on Africa’s macroeconomic outlook and the
role of the digital economy in driving sustainable growth across the continent.
The engagement focused on
opportunities to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation and strengthen
collaboration between industry and global institutions in supporting economic
development.
Mupita highlighted the
importance of partnerships in advancing digital inclusion and expanding the
benefits of technology-driven growth across African markets.
“By working with partners
from across the globe, we can speed up Africa’s digital transformation. We
appreciate the opportunity to engage constructively with the IMF leadership,
and look forward to more engagements ahead,” Mupita said.
The MTN Group CEO was
accompanied by Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo
Morafo, Treasury Executive Thuto Shomang, and Chief of Staff Jerry Mohammed
Varachia.
The IMF delegation included
Matthew Jones, Advisor to Dan Katz; Delia Velculescu, Mission Chief for South
Africa; and Tidiane Kinda, Senior Resident Representative and Head of Office
for South Africa.
The meeting comes as African
economies continue to explore digital technologies as key drivers of
productivity, financial inclusion, innovation, and long-term economic growth.
MTN has positioned digital connectivity and services as central to its strategy
of supporting Africa’s digital transformation.
