Nigeria’s National
Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced a partnership
with the National Association of Women in Colleges of Education to launch a
nationwide digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and STEM training programme
aimed at empowering female educators and young girls.
The partnership was
discussed during a meeting at NITDA Headquarters, where the association’s
North-West Zonal Coordinator, Zainab Inuwa Adamu, presented a proposal and
invited NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi to serve as Patron of
its upcoming national conference for Federal Colleges of Education.
Adamu highlighted the
association’s more than three-decade commitment to supporting female educators
and empowering young girls through vocational and skills development
programmes.
Responding to the proposal,
the NITDA Director-General welcomed the collaboration and emphasised the
importance of sustainable capacity building initiatives that create long-term
impact rather than one-time interventions.
Inuwa proposed the
development of digital literacy and information technology skills programmes
for members of the association, with plans for a nationwide rollout that could
begin during the upcoming conference.
The proposed initiative will
include training in digital marketing, business planning, and entrepreneurship
to strengthen women-led ventures while expanding mentorship opportunities for
the girls supported by the educators.
The NITDA Director-General
also highlighted the agency’s commitment to promoting gender-inclusive
innovation and expanding opportunities for more young women to pursue careers
in emerging technology fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, and
digital innovation.
He further pledged support
through the provision of digital tools and learning resources and invited
members of the association to participate in the Digital Nigeria Conference
2026.
