Uganda
has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital transformation and regional
collaboration through its participation at the Connected Africa Summit 2026 in
Nairobi, Kenya.
The
country’s delegation was led by the Minister of ICT & National Guidance,
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, alongside Permanent Secretary, Amina Zawedde, joining
government leaders, regulators, innovators, and technology partners from across
Africa and beyond under the theme “Uniting Africa’s Innovation for an Inclusive
Digital Market.”

As
part of the summit engagements, the delegation visited a smartphone assembly
facility in Athi River, where affordable 4G devices are manufactured. The tour
provided insights into the full production chain, including component assembly
and final testing processes.
The
team also toured the Konza Technopolis and the Nia Fiber plant, gaining
exposure to initiatives in fiber optic manufacturing, smart infrastructure, and
innovation ecosystems supporting Africa’s digital transformation agenda.

Uganda’s
participation reflects its broader strategy to strengthen digital
infrastructure, deepen regional partnerships, and expand access to
opportunities within the growing digital economy.
