Malawi
has underscored its commitment to advancing digital transformation during the
National ICT Innovation Awards held in Lilongwe, with government officials
highlighting growing momentum in the country’s technology-driven development
agenda.
The
event, officially opened by Minister Dr. Shadric Namalomba, brought together
policymakers, industry stakeholders, and innovators to celebrate achievements
in the ICT sector and promote innovation as a driver of economic growth.

Secretary
for Information and Communications Technology Harold Msusa, who participated in
the event, said the awards reflect a broader shift in Malawi’s digital strategy
from policy ambition to practical implementation.
He
noted that beyond recognising excellence, the awards serve as a platform for
nurturing young innovators, supporting local talent development, and
positioning Malawi as a competitive player in the global digital economy.
The
event also attracted senior government officials, including Cabinet Ministers
Alfred Gangata, Joel Chigona, and Mary Navicha, signalling strong political
commitment to leveraging ICT for inclusive growth and job creation.

Officials
emphasized that continued investment in innovation ecosystems and digital
infrastructure is key to sustaining progress, with ICT increasingly seen as a
central pillar in Malawi’s socio-economic development strategy.
The
awards highlighted the government’s focus on building digital platforms and
systems incrementally, as part of a long-term effort to transform the economy
through technology and innovation.
