The
Chief Regulatory Officer at GSMA and President of the Mobile for Development
Foundation, John Giusti, has held discussions with senior officials at the
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tokyo to explore strengthened
cooperation on digital development initiatives.
The
meeting took place ahead of the Digital Nation Summit Tokyo and focused on
expanding collaboration in key areas including disaster risk reduction, early
warning systems, geospatial data, startup innovation, and digital public
infrastructure.
JICA,
one of the world’s leading development agencies, was noted for its growing
emphasis on leveraging digital technologies to improve humanitarian and
development outcomes. Discussions highlighted opportunities for closer
alignment between GSMA-led initiatives and JICA’s global development agenda.
Participants
also examined how digital tools can enhance resilience and improve response
mechanisms in the face of natural disasters, particularly through improved data
systems and technology-driven coordination.
The
engagement forms part of a broader series of GSMA activities in Tokyo aimed at
strengthening global partnerships in digital transformation and inclusive
development.
