U.S. Ambassador praises Ethiopia’s progress in Artificial Intelligence during visit to AI Institute

Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga has commended Ethiopia’s growing
capabilities in artificial intelligence following a visit to the Ethiopian
Artificial Intelligence Institute.
During
the visit, the Institute’s Director General, Dr. Worku Gachena, briefed the
delegation on ongoing initiatives and the Institute’s role in advancing AI
applications across multiple sectors of the economy.
Ambassador
Massinga noted that the Institute’s work demonstrates strong national potential
in emerging technologies and could contribute significantly to the
transformation of key sectors. He further stated that the progress observed
exceeded expectations and reflects Ethiopia’s expanding capacity in the field
of artificial intelligence.
The
Ambassador also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between
Ethiopia and the United States, particularly through expanded engagement with
the private sector. He underscored the growing global significance of data,
calling for greater attention to data management and utilization as a driver of
digital economic growth.
Discussions
during the visit also focused on potential strategic partnerships and areas for
future collaboration aimed at advancing innovation and technology development
in Ethiopia.
