AfCFTA Secretary-General engages EU Ambassadors on implementation progress

The Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, Wamkele Mene has held a strategic meeting with Ambassadors of European Union member states to Ghana to provide updates on the progress of the continental trade agreement.

H.E Wamkele Mene briefed the diplomats on ongoing implementation efforts, outlining key milestones and priorities as the AfCFTA continues to advance regional economic integration.

During the engagement, he expressed appreciation to the European Commission for its continued technical and financial support to the AfCFTA Secretariat, particularly through the EU Technical Assistance Facility.

The meeting provided a platform for dialogue on critical aspects of implementation, especially within the context of evolving global economic and trade dynamics.

EU ambassadors welcomed the opportunity for engagement, commended the progress achieved so far, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the AfCFTA.

The discussions underscored the importance of sustained international partnerships in driving the objectives of the trade agreement and strengthening Africa’s position in global commerce.
