The East African Communications Organisation (EACO) has held discussions with the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) focused on strengthening regional cooperation in key areas of information and communications technology development.

East African Communications Organisation Executive Director Caroline Koech paid a courtesy call during a meeting with ATU Secretary-General John Omo.

The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration across several priority areas, including e-waste management, call and data traffic regulation, Internet Exchange Point (IXP) development, and cross-border frequency harmonization.

Both organisations underscored the importance of coordinated regional frameworks to improve efficiency, sustainability, and interoperability within Africa’s telecommunications ecosystem.

Officials noted that stronger cooperation among regional ICT institutions is critical to supporting digital transformation, improving connectivity infrastructure, and ensuring the sustainable growth of the continent’s digital economy.
