The
East African Communications Organisation (EACO) has held discussions with the
African Telecommunication Union (ATU) focused on strengthening regional
cooperation in key areas of information and communications technology
development.
East
African Communications Organisation Executive Director Caroline Koech paid a
courtesy call during a meeting with ATU Secretary-General John Omo.
The
discussions centered on enhancing collaboration across several priority areas,
including e-waste management, call and data traffic regulation, Internet
Exchange Point (IXP) development, and cross-border frequency harmonization.
Both
organisations underscored the importance of coordinated regional frameworks to
improve efficiency, sustainability, and interoperability within Africa’s
telecommunications ecosystem.
Officials
noted that stronger cooperation among regional ICT institutions is critical to
supporting digital transformation, improving connectivity infrastructure, and
ensuring the sustainable growth of the continent’s digital economy.
