Visa
Inc. has signed an agreement with Amhara Bank to expand access to secure and
accessible digital payment solutions in Ethiopia, as part of efforts to
accelerate the country’s transition from cash-based transactions to a digital
financial ecosystem.
The
partnership will focus on scaling Visa’s payment products within Amhara Bank’s
network, strengthening technical capabilities, and enhancing the reliability of
digital payment experiences for consumers and businesses. The initiative is
expected to support everyday commerce by making digital transactions more
accessible, trusted, and aligned with evolving user needs.

According
to Yared Endale, Head of Visa Eastern Africa and Country Manager for Ethiopia,
the collaboration goes beyond product expansion to address broader development
goals. He noted that the partnership aims to drive financial inclusion, support
small businesses, and contribute to building a resilient and modern financial
ecosystem.
The
agreement reflects ongoing efforts by both institutions to promote the adoption
of digital financial services across Ethiopia, enabling greater participation
in the formal economy and improving access to secure payment infrastructure.

With
increasing demand for efficient and reliable payment systems, the collaboration
is positioned to play a key role in advancing Ethiopia’s digital economy and
expanding opportunities for consumers, merchants, and communities.
